The 2015-16 Owls have put in a tremendous amount of work over the last two months, culminating in a week long camp in Show Low Arizona. Starting in June the athletes have put in 3 hours a day, four days a week. An average of 85 kids worked on lifting, core and conditioning at 7:00 in the morning, led by senior leaders Chris Cofield, Tristan Guerena and Griffin Roehler. The month of June also saw the varsity squad participate in eighteen passing league games, improving our pass offense and pass defense. The varsity linemen, led by Amado Beltran, also got in the action participating in two lineman competitions finishing the Desert Edge competition in second place ahead of rival Tolleson. Kids got back to the grind in July resuming our morning workouts. We put a stamp on our summer with a week-long camp at Show Low High School. Fifty-three kids and seven coaches took the two-hundred mile trek up north to camp. Included in this group were nine junior varsity players to get a firsthand look at leadership, discipline and technique needed in the years to come. At camp the kids were able to focus on nothing but football from Sunday evening to Friday morning. During the four days there was approximately twenty hours of practice, eight hours of meetings along with conditioning and lifting each day. The camp ended Thursday night with the annual skit night where kids had fun and bonded as one. The squad will finish the summer off next week with strength and speed testing at 5:00 PM and speed camp at 6:00 PM Monday thru Friday.
Friday night lights are slowly approaching the Owls are less than 35 days until their first game at Maricopa High School on August 28th. First home football game is the following week on September 4 against longtime rival Tolleson High School. Be there and support your Agua Fria Owls football team. #BeAnOwl
