AVONDALE- On Senior Night earlier this week, the Agua Fria Owls went 3-0 against La Joya, Copper Canyon, and the Verrado Vipers. Each round during Senior Night had everyone in the audience on the edge of their seats. Every wrestler worked very hard to take home a win and we did.
The Owls first opponent were the La Joya Wolf Pack. In the beginning of the round the Owls struggled with a score of 0-12. But the team didn’t quit and pulled through, leading with a score of 48-29. Marcos Bonilla had to stop as his opponent needed medical attention for a bloody nose. The round was filled with quick pins for Agua Fria.
The Owls last round was against the Verrado Vipers. This round was very quick and easy. The Owls easily won each match they had, leaving our score at 51-27. Kenny LaChappelle’s match was the most intense moment. He won but at the end of his round, the referee reconsidered, causing the opponent to win, leaving Kenny crushed.
“I feel I did good but not good enough to win,” LaChappelle said. When asked how he felt about the call, he said, “I don’t know what caused the call but it made me pretty mad that I lost by one point.”
After winning all three matches, the Agua Fria Owls finished the day 3-0. “They wrestled well, really well and I’m proud of what they’ve done,” head coach Richmond said. “They have come a long way this year and we’ve come 28-11 this year.”
Come out next Thursday, Feb. 5, to support the Agua Fria Owls for the wrestling sectionals!
