Agua Fria’s varsity women’s volleyball team played its first home game against Centennial High School on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. It was an intense game against a team with “bigger and stronger blockage,” said coach Stephanie Parker.
Despite the team giving it their all at the game, they came up short against Centennial. The Lady Owls fell 11-25, 11-25, and 17-25.
Many players on the team are young, driven girls that can push themselves “to get to the next level,” as Parker said. The team’s captains and coaches all believe that they need to work on communicating with each other in order to succeed in the games to come.
Fortunately, that improved communication has led them to a win at their second game at Vista Grande High School on August 30. The Lady Owls won in straight sets: 25-6, 25-13, and 25-8.
The Lady Owls (2-2) split their next two games after that. They fell to Williams Field 1-3 (26-24, 19-25, 22-25, 17-25) on Sept. 5, then followed it up with a 3-1 victory over La Joya (25-11, 25-16, 23-25, 25-6) on Sept. 12.
AFHS will be in action Thursday, Sept. 14 at Liberty.
