The Agua Fria wrestling team has had a great season while putting in a lot of hard work. This team has been in the wrestling room everyday after school for 2-3 hours each day giving it their all. The Owls had a very good season despite only having 4 seniors on their roster. The Freshman wrestlers have learned a lot from the team’s coaches and the team has a very bright future.

The 4 seniors are wrestlers Ben Mapp, (152 lbs) who has been on the team for all four years. One other wrestler is Senior captain Al Medina, (152 lbs), who has also been wrestling for all four years and he is the heart and soul of the team. Wrestler Angel Maestas, (145 lbs) is another senior wrestler who has had a great season, despite this being his first year on the team. Last but not least, is Serena Martinez (106 lbs) who has been in wrestling for 2 years.

The coaching staff has also gone above and beyond for their coaching this year, and they have been at practice everyday after school from 2-3 hours a day and that really shows their dedication to the team. The wrestlers are not the only ones who get bumps and bruises, the coach’s also get them from teaching the wrestlers the moves. Every coach has their own job for the team and each and everyone of them have done it.

The varsity wrestling team has participated in 5 different tournaments this year and they have had wrestlers place top 5 in each one. The JV wrestling team has been to two tournaments, and their wrestlers always show up and work hard. The varsity wrestling team has sectionals on Saturday, February 3rd and they hope to turn some heads.

The team has had a lot of ups and downs this season, but in the end they have showed that they are hard-working and can show up when they need to. The team has a lot of upside next season with their young roster. Now sectionals are here, and the wrestlers look forward to go out and compete. Go Owls!
