The Agua Fria football team ended its season last Friday with a tough 28-21 loss to Goldwater, finishing its season at 5-5, a four-win improvement over last season.

The seniors’ last high school game and senior night was on October 27th against Barry Goldwater. Coach George Martinez would like to let his senior football players know that even though this was his first year coaching, he quickly fell in love with the seniors and the team, he wishes he could have one more year with you guys.

The support for the Owls was awesome in their last game of the season. The Owls had a chance to win on fourth and goal from the three-yardline, but came up short.

Coach Martinez said he was proud of the improved season and sees even more success in the years to come. “We see a bright future ahead for Agua Fria “Owls” Football in the years to come,” he said. “I want to thank the Administration for hiring me to run this Football Program. I want to thank all my Coaches and Players for all the hard work and many hours of preparation to win games. Lastly I want to thank the Admin, Faculty, Staff, Booster Club and all who took part in helping the 2018 Football Teams be successful.”

Below is an update on some of the other action from the Owls’ season.

The Owls took on the Verrado Vipers in a conference game on Friday, September 28th, at 7:00. This was a long anticipated matchup and the Owls were predicted to lose, but the boys wanted to prove everyone wrong. The Owls came out strong and by the end of the first half they were up 14-0.

In the second half the Owls came out with the same energy and were ready to play. The Owls were out scored by Verrado in the second half 13-14 point but the Owls would win the game 27-14 dominating the first half. The game ended with a touchdown from Independence, but that was not enough for them to take home a win. The Owls finished the game with a 31-14 win. The crowd went crazy for the team, as they have now won the big homecoming game. With a high stakes game at hand and many people watching, the Owls “kept fighting the whole game and didn’t give up,” Eriyon Ward said.
