Your Owls men’s soccer team hit the road on Tuesday to face off against Maricopa High School. Despite the bus drive of nearly one and a half hours, the team arrived to the field ready to play.
In the first half of the JV game, the Owls dominated the game but left nothing to show for it as the half ended with the score tied at zero. However, the boys turned it on in the second half, scoring four goals and only conceding one, bringing their record to 3-0.
The Varsity soccer team looked to pick up where JV left off, and did so through two quick goals from sophomore Marlon Acosta. The Owls looked to add third goal in the closing moments after Maricopa conceded a free kick in the attacking half. The ball was crossed in and Sophomore John Walk rose above everyone else to head the ball into the back of the net, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
The team knew the game wasn’t over, and it proved true when Maricopa scored to cut the lead to two goals. The Owls responded through a spectacular goal by Sophomore Israel Mora as he fired a long range shot into the top right corner. The Owls added a fifth and final goal when a kick from freshman goalkeeper Diego Tacho bounced over a defender and to John Walk, who dribbled the rest of the way down the field and slotted it past the Maricopa goalie.
Next up on the schedule, the Owls will play their first region game against Barry Goldwater on Monday December 17. The Owls are one of four teams in the region that have started the season undefeated, with Independence at 3-0, Verrado and Millennium at 3-0-1, and the Owls at 2-0-1. Please come out and support your Owls soccer team in what should be a great game.
