After a long season, the 2019 Track and Field State Competition has finally come and gone. I am proud to say that things went fantastic for the Owls.
Natalie Steinman took third place in her flight of triple but missed out on finals.
The Boys 4×800, consisting of Demetri Davis (frosh), Allan Can (frosh), Oscar Gonzales (frosh) and Tayshawn Steward (sr), finished 10th overall. This team came in ranked 17th out of 18 teams but managed to move 7 ranks. They had a 9 and a half second pr and are now 1.5 seconds from our school record.
After getting a new PR in her 100 Riley Roberts came into finals with a solid time and a solid position. Although her time was not what she wanted it to be after finals she maintained her placement and in state and was able to earn the team 4points. In her 200 she took fifth and received a PR of 25.19.
Jaida Steward, a freshman managed to secure a spot in finals and she went after a new PR but ultimately came up short.
For the first time, all season long our girls 4 x 100 relay had someone running next to them. This entire season the girls were so far in front of everyone that they were not provided any kind of competition and were running against themselves. Today was the exception to that and we managed a new school record again and a new PR of 48.12. With that time our girls managed to secure a first-place finish and are officially State Champions!!!
Look forward to Saturday, May 11th as our girls 4 x100m relay competes in the 2019 Meet of Champions.
