It was emotional and exciting. The cross country districts meet, held at Millennium High School, was filled with tension as it was the last chance for anyone to qualify for state with their times. On Oct. 23, after the long night the boys cross country team had a successful day while the girls, on the other hand, had an emotional one.

The energy coming into the meet was intense. “We were all hyped,” said Samantha Lopez. “We felt as if it was going to go really good…we had to do better than any other meet than before.” The districts meet was an important meet for those to get to sectionals and soon aim for State.

The Boys’ Cross Country team had a successful night at the districts meet while Demitri Davis, Oscar Gonzales, Jacob Crofford and Ernesto Oquita won medals. These four boys are provisional to make state and move on to the next stage. Their next meet is Nov. 7, for those who made it to sectionals.

The Boys’ have been looking forward to this time of the year, as they continue to put the pedal to the metal and reach for gold.

On the other hand, the Girls’ cross country team has also been waiting for the Districts meet and working to reach the times they need to go onto the next part of their season. Many of the girls’ are also dual-sport athletes and with a lot on their plate, they have come far this year.

Junior, Aspen Charles is the only girl on the cross country team to medal at the districts meet and while also being the only one with a provisional time to make state. Many other girls came close.

Although, the girls’ did not have as a successful night as the boys’ did, they pushed through an emotional meet, giving it all they had to the very end.

“The meet overall went good but mentally we weren’t there,” said Vivianna Martinez. “It was a very emotional meet.”

Next year be sure to look out for this cross country team as the majority of them are juniors.

The cross country team’s season is coming to an end as only few remain. Be ready to support them as their next meet is Nov. 7 and State is to be announced. When you see these hard-working Owls around, any support is appreciated. Go Owls!
