The Agua Fria Varsity Swim Season has finally come to an end.
Our Seniors this season made a remarkable impact on the team, showing sportsmanship and helping the team win many of their matchups against schools such as Central and Camelback. What we saw from the 2019 Agua Fria Boys and Girls Varsity Swim was competitive, and all the athletes in the program gave it their all for the team. Ranging from exhaustion, hard work in their events, and practicing every-day paid off for the team.
Throughout the season, we saw many of our swimmers including the Seniors, breaking their personal records and performing phenomenally during the swim season. From taking first place in events ranging from the 50 freestyle, to breaking many of their personal records in their events.
Anthony Soliz is one of the senior Swimmers that made a remarkable impact on the team. During the meet against Central, Anthony decided to challenge himself as the only competitor in the 100 breaststroke, with him of course taking first place. As well as him performing very well in his individual events throughout the season, such as competing in the 50 freestyle in his final invite with the team at Chandler High School on November 1.
Senior Matthew Hirsch also had shown solid performances throughout the season, such as winning in both of his individual events, which were the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly during Senior Night against Central High School. Not only he performed well on Senior Night, but his performance with the team this season has been amazing, like every other swimmer on the team!
Not only the Senior boys swimmers had a remarkable future ahead of themselves, but the senior girls swimmers are moving in the same direction as the boys, with many of the girls swimmers came in first place and had season-high scores in many of their events throughout the season.
During Senior Night, Mariah Cruz had her last meet diving for the school, and she took first place, with her breaking her personal record of a score of 109.45! While Syndee Messerschmidt, who has been on the team for four years at Agua Fria High School, finished her final individual wins in both her 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
There had been many great memories made with the team this season, from the enjoyment with their teammates, to showing so much love to one another. Perhaps one of the best memories this season was having an amazing time with the team during a matchup that was cancelled due to lightning! “It truly made us feel so much united even though we didn’t get to swim, we still tried to have a good time!” senior Nadia Kostic said.
As the Agua Fria 2019 Varsity Swim season has officially came to an end, we would like to congratulate all of the athletes that put their effort with the team this season, as well as the seniors that had been with the team and with Agua Fria High School. We are all wishing the best of luck to our seniors as they will be graduating in just a few months, hoping they have a great future ahead, as well as wishing the Varsity Swim Team the best of luck in hoping to make it to state next season.
Let’s go Owls!
