With winter sports being back on and resuming there are a few requirements to this. Masks must be worn during the entire game, including the athletes playing the game. There is a limit to two spectators per athlete for home team players only. Any school that violates these rules will lose all AIA officiation.

Jaden Marquez from the men’s basketball team spoke about how he personally felt having to wear a mask during a game.  ¨I feel like it’s not fun wearing a mask during gameplay because we can now easily run out of breath. But at least we get a season,”  Marquez said. It’s easy to see where he is coming from because I know having to work out and run with a mask on and it’s not fun.

Leslie Rodriguez agrees with Jaden on the mask-wearing situation. She said,Keeping a mask on can be difficult and they’re really hard to breathe in while running since we have to keep them on all the time, but it’s better than not being able to have a season at all!” said Leslie Rodriguez from the women’s soccer team.

“I’m super happy about being able to play with my team though and that we are able to have a season.”

This is great for Leslie because she is a senior and it would be a shame not being able to play your sport your last year in high school.

Michelle Cadena on the women’s soccer team said, ¨Now that the season is back on I’m happy but playing with a mask can cause many things. Some girls don’t know how to breathe with a mask on and it can cause many accidents, which sucks. Having to play with a mask bothers people because we have to worry more about the mask than the ball, but it is what it is and as long as we have a season, I’m happy.¨

Personally, I would hate having to wear a mask during your games. When I was going to football workouts I had to keep a mask on to ensure everyone else’s safety so I see where the athletes I spoke to are coming from. As a sports fan, I’m very curious to see how the season turns out this year with the new guidelines.
