The freshman football team ended its season with a bang, snagging the 28-6 victory over the visiting Roughriders of Youngker and finishing out our year with an overall winning 5-4 record.
In front of an amazing home crowd, the Owls got going early with 3 first half touchdown runs by Jovante Trimble. This kid really is something special and will only continue to wow fans as he develops his game. The defense was phenomenal as usual, forcing three turnovers — a fumble caused and recovered by Keyonne Charleston, an interceptions by Luis Lomeli and Tony Robinson.
Roy Henderson added his first touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Big ups as well to Dominick Herrera, Angel Oliva, Allan Can and Matt Manola for displaying commendable work ethic all season. Anywhere the team needed these guys, they were there.
There were some familiar Owl faces on the opposing sideline last night. None other than formers Owls Tony Cluff (former Owl football coach and current varsity Youngker coach), Chad Simpson (former Owl security guard) and Jackie Garcia (former Owl PE teachers and Youngker frosh head coach) made a visit back to the Owl’s Nest as members of the Youngker coaching staff. We made sure to show that Owl football is alive and thriving.
I am truly grateful for all the love and support you’ve shown all season for our freshman program. The success on and off the field is a testament to the community of caring teachers and staff we have at AFHS. I’d like to shout out Drew Olsson for cheering on the boys last night, David Espinoza for taking spectacular photos, Sam Eid for being on top of it as admin on duty and Sam Polvino for running the clock for us all year, and and anyone else I missed!
Support your JV Owls tonight as hungry-for-an-8th-win Coach Huff and the Owls travel to Goldwater to end their season tonight at 6 p.m. Then don’t miss Senior Night on Friday when Varsity takes on Goldwater.,
