Wednesday November 28,
Your Agua Fria Owls hit the road on Wednesday and traveled to Sierra Linda High School for a multi-dual meet against the host and Verrado. This was our second multi-dual meet of the year and the Owls seemed to show tremendous growth since their first time on the mat.
First match was against Verrado and it was a good one. Both teams showed great technique and desire to work one another on the mat. Andy Tran, Joseph Laborin and Xavier Martinez walked away with pins for the Owls. Most impressive pin was done by Xavier Martinez as he perfected a front head offensive move with a punch-through/cowbell catcher. Overall team points Verrado got the victory with the score of 54-30.
Second match was against Sierra Linda and the Owls seemed focused, determined and with a goal in mind. Senior Armando Moya started the dual off and he quickly gave his teammates something to cheer about. Nice frame all around and with solid muscle behind it he wanted to let his opponent know that he meant business. The entire first round was a shoving match, trying to find leverage on his opponent and with few seconds left he got a takedown but it did not count as time expired. Second period started and Moya was on bottom of the referee position. Armando got his two points for the reversal and he made work with what he had sinking in a Power Half. After a couple squirming gestures from his opponent, Moya settled in and got the pin.! With the Owls excited the dual seemed to carry the momentum all the way through. Freshman Dominick Herrera got his first pin of the year and he is a name that many will be hearing as the season continues. Owls win that match with the score of 51-22
This Friday the Owls head to Flagstaff for a tournament and seek to continue the success.
